Location Based Marketing for Well Drillers

Digital marketing has become extremely popular over the past 10 years. A lot of different industries have adapted to the digital marketing age and they’ve started to use new ways to market their business that have never been available before.

The reason why digital marketing is so effective is that you can actively engage with your potential customers in the comfort of their own home, car, or anywhere else. 

It’s extremely effective for scaling because you can control the exact amount of customers that you are getting, which is just impossible to do with traditional marketing methods.

These are just some of the benefits and there are many more. Many industries have seen the potential of digital marketing and they’ve started to use it to grow their businesses. Unfortunately, this can’t be said for the well drilling industry.

The question is, how can we know if the same form of marketing will be effective for the well drilling industry? The answer to that question is, by looking at similar industries and seeing the results they are generating.

There are a lot more marketing methods that can be used but these are without a doubt the most effective ones, we will get more into why later.

 

Competition

Currently, there are not many businesses in the well drilling industry that effectively use digital marketing, unlike in many other industries.

But, this isn’t bad at all. The amount of competitors is a really big factor when it comes to analyzing how effective your marketing strategy can be.

The more competitors you have, the harder it is to advertise. So for this reason, the well drilling industry is in a really special place right now. The pioneers who act early will be able to get a larger share of the market and as time passes, it will be more and more difficult to start advertising, especially in more populated areas where there is more competition.

Google Ads is a great practical example of this. The way you advertise on Google Ads is by bidding for keywords, the ones who pay more for keywords will rank higher. So, the more competitors you have, the higher the cost would be to rank high for them.



Google Business Listing

Google Business Listing is a listing for your company that shows up in search results when somebody looks up one of your services or the name of your company.

It can be highly effective for generating leads because:

It shows up before organic search results so people would first see these listings before they see actual search results, which is why your potential customers would use these listings more than they use organic search results when it comes to finding companies in their area.

It shows all your reviews on Google which gives your listing more attention.

When potential customers search for a service in your area, they will be able to visit your website and call you directly from Google, which makes Google Business Listing highly effective for generating phone call leads.

The most important part is that it doesn’t cost you anything, the only thing you need to have is an office and if you are a small company you can also use your home address. You can also choose if you want to show your address on Google or not.

Even if you are a really small company, Google Business Listing can be a great tool that you can utilize by yourself to get some results. Focus on getting as many Google reviews, write a lot of information about your services, a clear business description, a helpful Q&A and you are on your way to start getting some leads.



Organic Search Results

Having a good website is the foundation of any successful digital marketing. The purpose of marketing is to get attention and lead the visitors to your website where you can explain what you do in more detail.

Your website needs to describe your services, the area you work in and anything else that your potential customers can find helpful when it comes to determining which business is best for them.

People constantly search for services/companies in their cities and Google will show the most relevant results from that location. This is why it’s pointless to focus on broad keywords, such as “well drilling” even though they do generate the most searches, they will be the searches by users from the whole world.

 

Google Ads

Google search ads can be really effective because it allows you to rank immediately in the top of the search results. SEO can take up to 6 months before you start to see some results. This is why combining SEO with Google Ads is the most effective strategy. Depending on a single strategy is dangerous anyway, but even in normal conditions, if you start to generate less leads through SEO, you can just increase your Google Ads budget to even things out.

But, using Google ads is not something that I would recommend for small business owners to do themselves because it can be really dangerous. If you don’t have experience running Google Ads, you can waste thousands of dollars really quickly but incorrectly setting up the advertising campaigns to spend more money, by giving Google full control and more.

Hiring an agency is not always a positive outcome either, there are a ton of agencies out there that sell a good story to business owners but they don’t really know what they are doing.

It’s also, in my experience, much more effective to hire a good agency that does everything instead of working with multiple agencies. First off, it’s less expensive, and the most important thing is that a single agency that has full control is much more organized than 3 different agencies. This is why these types of agencies in most cases produce better results.
